In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is found in Nahal Ein Kerem.

Elkin his ministry, which spearheaded the project along with Jerusalem Municipality stated that his ministry had invested thousands of shekels annually in the city's tourism development and in the development of new activities and ventures that will connect the magnificent historic past with the the future of Jerusalem. I would like to invite cyclists everywhere to take a trip and enjoy the new, well-maintained and modern route which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million for the project. The project was executed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stressed the fact that "The Kerem Tunnel Project is the central instrument to achieve the goal to change the way we think about transport in Jerusalem."  נווה פריצקי Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel connects with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike paths. It will also be paved in its different areas.  נווה פריצקי The tunnel will be a great way to increase cycling and encourage green transport in Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the early 1990s in order to shift the main sewer line from the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant located in Sorek It is situated west of the city and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel. It also includes the fifth water line, which connects to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.

The current works include road construction, the installation of blowers, as well as advanced security and electrical systems in order to ensure that the tunnel is secure for people to walk through all year round.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation spots which include the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo, aquarium and the along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh. נווה פריצקי
